For french learners, it is very important to know the months of the year to understand seasons or if you’re planning for an event or travellling to France. It might be the basic thing that you learn in your own language so French is no different.
If you’re familiar with English months then you got your luck! Because these are derived from Latin.
So Let’s Get Started!
Il y a douze mois dans une année. (There are twelve months in a year.)
In French, the number precedes the month’s name. For example, the formation that follows specifically tells the exact date of the month in a year:
- C’est + le (the definite article)+ Date (cardinal number) + Month name.
- C’est le 6 octobre.
- C’est le 20 décembre.
But, the first day of the month is written a little differently as the ordinal number is used instead of a cardinal number like first or 1st.
- C’est le premier janvier.
- C’est le 1er avril.
- C’est le premier avril 2024. (Add the year to be more specific.)

- The format of writing a date in French is : le 6 octobre (October 6th).
- If you want to say ”in” while using the months then use ”en”. Eg. Mon anniversaire est en octobre.
